Choosing an automatic rental car
An automatic lets you drive without manually changing gears. If that is the transmission you normally use, selecting one can make it easier to settle into an unfamiliar car. When comparing Malta car hire, check that the vehicle description explicitly says automatic: a model photograph or a category name alone does not confirm the gearbox.
Compare size as well as transmission
Automatic cars can come in different sizes. A compact option suits a lighter packing list, while larger groups need to consider seating and luggage together. Check the details for the category you choose, including the number of doors, air conditioning and luggage capacity where stated. Example models are a guide unless the booking explicitly guarantees a particular model.
How to find an automatic in the booking results
Enter your dates and pickup location to see the current rental options. Look for the automatic transmission description in the results and open the category details before continuing. Do not assume that every category offers both manual and automatic versions. Availability and the final price depend on your dates, location and selected rental conditions.
Before you drive away
Ask for a brief explanation of the controls if the car is unfamiliar. Locate the gear selector, parking brake, lights and demister before setting off. Set your destination while parked. If you are also adjusting to driving on the left, give yourself time to get comfortable and read our driving in Malta guide before your trip.
